Here Is Why Telegram Has Become Inaccessible In Kenya

In the early hours of Monday, November 3, 2025, users of Telegram, one of the biggest social media messaging apps in the country, reported being unable to access the platform. Here is why it has been blocked in the country.
Curbing KCSE Examination Malpractice
One of the biggest problems faced by examination bodies in Kenya is the widespread exam cheating that many youths engage in.
People do this by getting access to KCSE examination papers hours before the exam. These questions are then shared on platforms like Telegram, giving students an unfair advantage to memorize the answers. This form of cheating is not a true measure of knowledge and causes great harm to the nation.
To curb this menace, the government, in collaboration with internet service providers in Kenya, has disabled access to all IPs, domains, and applications linked to the app. As a result, users have been locked out of Telegram and are unable to access it.
Confirmation from NetBlocks
The service interruptions have been confirmed by Netblocks, an organisation that monitors internet connectivity worldwide.
