The Story of Vincent Kaluma Boy

While many kids used Social media for negative things, Vincent Kaluma, popularly known as Kaluma Boy has used it to share his life struggles that is making huge impacts in the life of many Kenya Gen Z. He turned his family’s pain and father’s illness to blessing.

Background and Biography
Vincent Kaluma was born around 2008 (Age 17). He hails from Nyeri and comes from a very poor family. His mother is a petty trader, and his father is a farmer.

Growing up, Kaluma Boy could barely afford basic needs, but the love that surrounded his family was so strong that it was all he needed. Vincent Kaluma has always been a good child. After school, which he attended in his local community, he would usually go home, attend to his chores, work on the farm, and do everything he could to bring a smile to his family.

He couldn’t afford to go to the best schools because of his family’s financial situation. However, that did not stop him from excelling academically. In fact, he was among the brightest in his class and managed to balance his daily struggles with his studies.

Occasionally, he does comedy as a side hustle and his push on Tiktok was already garnering him some attention.

In late 2024, he father was struck with an illness, a stroke that left him almost paralyzed. With no much financial strength, Kaluma Boy was made to carter for the need of his sick dad and he did it with joy. He changes his clothes, moved him around, took him to the hospital, bath him, feed him. Infact, he was his primary care giver.

Rise To Fame
Kaluma Boy went viral on TikTok after a video of his caregiving activities caught the attention of users on the platform. In an unusual move, he documented all his struggles and uploaded them to his TikTok page. Users quickly reached out to him and began crowdfunding to help him cover his sick father’s hospital bills.

In September 28, 2025, thousands of Kenyas assembled in Nyeri, the hometown of Kaluma Boy to show support for him.

Financial Support & Scholarships
Kaluma Boy moved from being a stranger to most of his followers to become a brother and family. Within a couple of weeks, funds were raised for his mother to support her business. Ksh 2M was contributed for that purpose alone.

As a highschool graduate but with no financial means to proceed to attain higher education, Kaluma Boy was offered full to East Africa University where he will pursue a course in Sales and Marketing by its Vice Chancellor. His scholarship was facilitated and sponsored by Bishop Muthee Kiengei of JCM Church in Ruiru.

Bishop Muthee Kiengei also facilitated the crowdfunding of Vincent Kaluma that reached about Ksh 17M.

Criticism of The Government
Kenyas are calling out the government for their inability to provide proper healthcare and social support to its citizens. Some believed a child should not be forced to carry the weight of caregiving because of the incompetency of the state.
