Background & Biography
Vinny Mkali was born August 4, 2003 (Age 2). Hailing from Meru, he came from a humble background and pursued music to improve his life. He began his career at a very young age, and by the time he was 20, he had already gained significant recognition in Meru County.
As his influence continues to grow, he formed partnership with Surf Msanii, and together they created Decent Inc, a recording label that manages the distribution of their music. Since his emergence into the local Meru music scene, he has delivered a handful of bangers including “I UUMA” and “Kwibuo Ûkuua.”
Arrest & Jail Sentence
Vinny Mkali was arrested in 2025 following his affair with an underage, a sixteen years old girl in Meru. After his arrest, he was charged to court. In his defence, he claimed to not be the first to have an affair with the teenager, but that was not an excuse to violate the laws of the land and so was sentenced to 20 years in prison after being found guilty of defilement.
The ruling was made on Wednesday, 3 November 2025 by Magistrate Lilian Maina at the Meru Law Courts. The court said the punishment should serve as a warning to those who are fond of having relationships with teens.
Appeal
Following the ruling by the Meru Law Court, Danstan Omari spearheaded an appeal and together with Meru TikTokers, they have launched a Ksh 10 million fundraiser for Vinny Mkali’s case.
