Bishop Margaret Wanjiru: Biography, Ministry & Controversies

Bishop Margaret Wanjiru is a Kenyan Gospel minister, prophet, politician and the founder of Jesus Is Alive
Ministries (JIAM). She is one of the biggest religious figure in Kenya.

Biography
Margaret Wanjiru was born December 22,
1961 Age 62. She hails from Nairobi, and like most families at that time, they were poor. Not only were they poor, but she and her siblings were also raised by a single mother whose resources were barely enough to cover the household expenses.

Growing up was tough for Margaret Wanjiru. They lived in a detached house reserved for servants in the place where her mother was working. But that didn’t stop her mother from providing Margaret Wanjiru and her siblings with basic education.

While in highschool, she got pregnant which made her mother to expell her from their home. In order to fend for herself and baby, she secured a maid job with provided accomodation within the vicinity, but again, she got pregnant with her second child which forced her employee to kick her out.

In the twist of event, she was seen homeless on the street Hawking and doing several petty trading until a gentleman had pity on her condition and offered her a job at his company. Margaret Wanjiru started as a cleaner and within the years rose through the ranks, this enabled her to save enough money for her higher education.

It was a difficult period for Margaret Wanjiru, but she was all determined. While she was working as a cleaner, she was also schooling and nursing her two kids and Upon her graduation from college, she became a sales girl and later rose to sales and marketing executive in the same company.

Ministry
Margaret Wanjiru didn’t start her life as a dedicated Christian. Infact, she lived a very not-so-christian-like lifestyle untill he gave his life to Jesus Christ at a crusade she went with her sister.

She revealed in an interview with KTN that she was once possessed and the dark forces threatened her that if she worships God, she would be dead within 6 days but Margaret said this made her even more determined to receive salvation. During the crusade she attended, the preacher called her out and delivered her from the hands of the devil and that very moment, she resigned from her businesses and began preaching the gospel of the lord.

She started as a street preacher and when she has a growing following, she launched Jesus Is Alive Ministries (JIAM) in the 2000’s.

Health
In 2020, Bishop Margaret was diagnosed with Covid-19. She got the virus having a contacts with some group of people she hosted. She recovered quickly.

Relationship & Family
Bishop Margaret is single and not married to anyone. While she is single, she is a mother of three wonderful children, two sons (Steven Kariuki & Evans Kariuki) and a daughter (Purity Kariuki).

In 2007, she was involved in a romantic relationship with South African pastor, Samuel Matjeke, but marriage proceedings were halted after her ex, James Kamangu Ndimu filed proceedings against them.

Politics
In 2007, Margaret Wanjiru entangled herself with the political affairs of the nation after she was elected as a Member of Parliament for Starehe Constituency in a hotly contested election. Before her involvement in politics, she has always been a vocal participant in governmental policy and leadership issues across the board. She wanted a change and got tired of politicians not keeping to their promises.

In 2008, she was appointed to the cabinet as an assistant Minister for
housing and in 2013, she had an intention to vie for the gubernatorial position in Nairobi but her quest was declined by her party.

Controversy
Bishop Margaret Wanjiru has been involved in a number of controversies. In 2024, she claimed to have sustained various degrees of injury during a fracas with some officers who were trying to destroy a part of her church building.
