Kelvin Bichanga & Sylvia Miller: Divorce, Marriage & Background
One of the relationships that had everyone talking in Kenya was the one between Kelvin Bichanga and Sylvia Miller. Their marriage gave hope to people who still doubted the existence of true love, which is why it was sad to hear that they would eventually be separating.
Background
Sylvia Miller, an American woman of Amish ancestry, met Kelvin “Koree” Bichanga when she and her family came to Kenya in 2016.
The family came from an Amish Mennonite community in Ohio and were in Kenya as part of a Christian missionary effort. Unfortunately, during their stay in Kisumu, a robber broke into their home, stealing valuables including a laptop and a phone.
Trying to salvage the situation, Sylvia and her father, Gerald, went to a computer repair shop in Kisumu, where Kelvin happened to be working. When Sylvia saw Kelvin, she says it was love at first sight.
Although she did not immediately get Kelvin’s number, she later contacted him on social media under the pretext of trying to sell an old iPhone. From there, their conversations gradually developed from casual chats into something more serious.
When Sylvia, her siblings and her parents, Gerald and Becky, left Kenya after completing their missionary work, Sylvia and Kelvin continued communicating.
They remained in contact from 2016 to 2020 and kept their relationship largely hidden from Sylvia’s parents because of their different cultural and religious backgrounds. Eventually, after years of maintaining their relationship despite the challenges, they made it public. In April 2021, Sylvia and Kelvin got married in Kisumu.

Upon moving to Kisumu to join her husband, Sylvia had already spent much of her savings and was left with no choice but to find a way to make a living.
At first, she ran a shop, but due to low sales, she decided to take the food and snacks she baked with her friends directly to customers. These included mandazi, pretzels, pizza pockets, apple pies and mango pies.
Her unique approach to selling the food quickly caught the attention of Kenyans. Before long, Sylvia had become a familiar face in Kisumu and was affectionately nicknamed “Mzungu wa Mandazi.”
Aside from her business, Sylvia also became part of the family’s growing online presence. She and Kelvin ran social media pages under The Bichanga Family, where they shared family content that quickly attracted a large audience.
Birth of Their Son and Relocation to the United States
In 2024, Sylvia and Kelvin announced that they were expecting their first child. In July 2024, they welcomed their son, Taavi Lee Bichanga.
In early 2025, Sylvia, Kelvin and their baby relocated to the United States, moving to Ohio as they began a new chapter of their lives.
Separation
After about five years of marriage, Sylvia Miller publicly announced that she and Kelvin were separating. Sylvia raised allegations involving trust, deception and alleged infidelity as the reason for their breakup
