Who is Joseph Jowie Irungu?

Jowie Irungu is a Kenyan artists, songwriter and entrepreneur. He has been found guilty of the murder of Nairobi businesswoman Monica Kimani and awaiting his punishment.

Biography
Jowie Irungu, real name Joseph Jowie Irungu was born November 20, 1985 Age 38. He hails from and was raised in Nakuru, attending the renowned Langa Langa Secondary School in the same town.

Joseph Jowie Irungu grew up attached to music. His love for music began in early childhood when his mother sang lullabies for him. Developing a passion, he started honing his musical craft during Sunday school services.

Joseph Jowie Irungu was brought up in a very a religious or spiritual home where it’s mandated to go to church every week and attend church programs and services that falls within and in the middle of the week. During these church programs like bible studies, Jowie Irungu will be among the instrumentalists and choir, singing and playing drum sets.

Having lived all his youthful years in the vineyard of the lord, it was near impossible for Joseph Jowie Irungu not to follow a gospel music career and path.

Career
Immediately after graduating from Highschool, Joseph Jowie Irungu migrated to the Middle East where he did training in a security company. During that time, he was posted to Iraq and some Arab countries and upon his return to Kenya, he worked as a high profile security expert and the following years, he launched his career as a gospel musician and was able to push his craft with the money he has saved so far.

He made his debut in the music scene in 2020 following his release of “Nishikilie” via Safri Records.

While most people will quickly categorise Joseph Jowie Irungu as a gospel artists, he has said he’s a conscious artists who is spiritual and has a personal relationship with God.

Businesses
Aside been a Gospel artists, Joseph Jowie Irungu Is an entrepreneur. He manages several businesses including a bottling water company he has with his brother named, Hydra Iodine.

Murder Case
On 25th September 2018, Joseph Jowie Irungu was linked to the murder of Monica Kimani. Monica Kimani was found dead in her apartment in Kilimani estate.

During an investigation into the case, it was revealed that two men had signed in as Owen and Joe to visit Monica in her apartment. Jowie was arrested after the investigators founds loopholes in his statement recorded at Langata Police Station on September 21, where he claimed that he was shot and injured as he dropped his girlfriend at Royal Park Estate in Langata, Nairobi.

Throughout 2018 to 2020, Jowie sought bail but was denied. While his girlfriend, Jackie Maribe who was also accused alongside Jowie was released on bail. Jowie Irungu was released on 13th February 2020 after meeting several bail conditions, including the payment of Ksh2 million.

Conviction
In a ruling delivered on February 9, 2024, Justice Grace Nzioka found Joseph Jowie Irungu guilty of charges levied on Joseph Jowie Irungu and declared him guilty of the murder of Monica Kimani.

The judge highlighted several aspects of the case that made her determine that Jowie was guilty including a forensic analysis of Monica Kimani’s blood stains found in Jowie’s shorts.

Relationship
Jowie is currently single and not in any commited relationship. His last relationship was with former Miss Global Kenya, Eleanor Micabel and they do not have child together.
